“Medeu” High-mountain Ice Rink

“Medeu” High-mountain Ice Rink was built in 1972.

“Medeu” is one of the greatest high-mountain complexes for the winter sports. “Medeu” became widely known for its warm climate at the gorge, high attitude, non-high atmospheric pressure and clean upland water used for ice resurfacing.

The area of the ice rink is 10,5 thousand m² which gives opportunity to hold speed skating, ice hockey and figure skating competitions.

There were set more than 120 world records starting from 1972. In this respect, the high-mountain ice rink “Medeu” received the name “fabric of the records”.

After holding the VII Asian Games, the ice rink was modernized. Currently, “Medeu” is a popular place for citizens and guests of Almaty.

Winter Universiade 2017: “Medeu” High-mountain Ice Rink will hold speed skating competitions.
