Being a Volunteer is the Right Thing to Do!
Not everyone understands the real meaning of volunteering. If you look it up in a dictionary, it originates from the French. volunteer – a person who freely offers to take part in an enterprise or undertake a task or a person that gets used to taking care of the people around them, helping them voluntarily and without asking from them any compensation in return. As a reward, they receive the appreciation and gratitude of the people that they have helped.
From ancient times, Kazakh people had a reputation of being a people who cared and helped the people around them. The tradition called “Asar” is a great example. All village residents gather together and do the work that cannot be done by a single family. This kind of work is done voluntarily. Nowadays, volunteering is a reflection of the Asar tradition. This is why, very confidently, we can claim that volunteering goes deep to the roots of our country.
The 2017 Universiade will take place in Almaty from 29 January till 8 February. It is expected that 3000 volunteers will become involved, including foreigners and representatives of all regions.
