In the second half of the day, men’s 10,000m speed skating race took place at Medeu. The snowfall was heavy at this time of the day. In total, 16 athletes from 11 countries competed in the longest race in speed skating. Davide Ghiotto, who had earlier won the 5,000m race, took the gold medal. Seytaro Ichinohe from Japan, who came second, was disqualified for an offense. The silver medal, thus, went to his compatriot, Masahito Obayashi. Moon Hyuwoong from Korea took the bronze.
On an after-match press conference the speed skaters shared their impressions about the race.
Davide Ghiotto:
- I am happy. It was a hard day for me. It was cold and snowing. My impressions, however, are very good.
Masahito Obayashi:
- I haven’t been giving up for the whole day. I am happy to have won the second place.
Moon Hyuwoong:
- The competition took place in a cold and snowy weather. I am glad with my results.
