Arman Assenov: “I did not go to receive the “Oscar in sports” only because I am responsible for this event.”

The producer of the “Kazakh Khanate” TV series told the reporters about his role in organizing the torch relay ceremony.

Arman Assenov, the head of the Palace of the Republic and an Honored Personality of the Republic Of Kazakhstan, was supposed to receive the “sports Oscar” in Atlantic City. But he preferred to attend the 2017 Universiade Torch Relay Ceremony in Almaty.

- How important do you think the Universiade is important for Kazakhstan and the world?

– There are four major sporting events in the world. Olympics is number one, then World Championships follow. Universiade is on the third place followed by the military-sports games. The Universiade is a landmark event. It is thus great that Kazakhstan is hosting it. It is important for the image of Kazakhstan.

The Universiade is a preparation for EXPO. We can see that our hotels are ready and the security structures as well. 263 people work in the security of The Palace of the Republic. The safety of the Torch Relay ceremony is being ensured by three major services: the Ministry of Defense, the Department of Interior and our own security service. It is important because if we feel safe and let our children attend such events, everything will be fine.

There is a lot of negative news all over the world nowadays, so we really do need positive things to happen.

- How will the Kazakhstani sport benefit from the Universiade?

- An Ice Palace and an Ice Arena were built for our city. Both of the venues were much needed. I am sure that in the future this will give a new momentum to the Kazakhstani sport.

I was supposed to receive the “sports Oscar” today in Atlantic City. I didn’t go, though, because I am responsible for this event. Instead of myself, my daughter went to the awards ceremony. When she told from the stage that The Universiade is being opened now, the audience applauded.
