The head of the Directorate for Preparation and Holding of the 28th World Winter Universiade 2017 Nail Nurov told about the final preparations for the competitions and the ticket sales.
“The competitions are about to start, and we are 100% ready. Those who watch our project closely probably know that the torch relay race has started in Astana on January 25. The President of Kazakhstan took part in the ceremony. The race itself is very creative and interesting. Each day, we get videos and photos depicting it. We can see that Kazakhstan is enthusiastic about the project. For the first time in history, our country is hosting such a major multi-disciplinary sporting event. I believe that in general we are well-prepared.
Nurov also said that more than a half of all the tickets have already been sold out. The remaining half is expected to be sold during the Universiade.
“The ticket policy was one of our priorities. I would like to thank FISU for partnering with us in the ticket sales program. Their partnership was really helpful. To be honest, it was invaluable. Never in the history of Kazakhstan have tickets on more than 108 events been sold so successfully. Without the help of FISU, it would be very difficult for us to manage the task. More than a half of all the tickets are sold so far. We have to consider that there are a lot of last-minute people. I am sure that the remaining tickets will be sold during the Games. Tickets are already sold out for all the top competitions. Tickets for the opening ceremony have also been sold out long ago. This is good news for us, a clear indication of the Universiade’s high status. There was some skepticism initially. Some people told that participating athletes and teams are not of a high professional status. We can see that the interest is high now. Most of the tickets are quite cheap; the prices start at 300 KZT. There are some expensive options as well. Both types are being bought actively.”
The World Winter Universiade will take place in Almaty between January 29 and February 8, 2017.
