The Winter Universiade 2017 will see over 55 countries from around the world competing. So, South America, including the Argentine, Brazil and Paraguay has chosen to join in. The Argentinian national team will bring two sportsmen – a snowboarder Inaki Odriozola and a skier Tomas Basigalupo. The two athletes admitted that they know little of Kazakhstan. However, as they arrive in Almaty they would love to get to know more of our country.
After graduation, over the past months the sportsmen have been training up in the mountains. The Argentinian delegation pin high hopes on them expecting medals in both sports. As for Inaki Odriozola, he took part in the Argentinian Snowboarder Slopestyle Championship 2015 and the Big Air 2016 in South America. At the Winter Universiade 2017 the athlete is planning to gain a big experience and get acquainted with the local culture. “I know almost nothing of Kazakhstan and now I am reading material on the history of your country and the making of its independence. I hope that while in Almaty I will get to know more about the culture of this region”, said Odriozola.
Tomas Basigalupo also looks to good performance at the 28th Winter Student Games. At the competitions, he is planning to see the fitness level of sportsmen from other countries and meet new friends. He knows little of Kazakhstan and will be delighted to see the country hosting the University 2017 with his own eyes.
