I am a Universiade volunteer!

Kazakhstan is burgeoning and the fact that the republic is running the landmark events of the like of the Universiade and EXPO Kazakhstan speaks for itself. The citizens' natural aspiration to help their country has translated itself into a volunteer movement. The 28th Worldwide Winter Universiade will engage 3,000 volunteers from various cities of Kazakhstan as well as other countries.

Asel Beisembayeva (a first-year student at SDU) and Aina Zhakina (editor in chief of Turan TV) are both volunteers at the 28th Worldwide Winter Universiade.

Almaty2017.com: What has made you to become a volunteer at the Universiade?

A.B.: I believe that this will give me a big experience and help me in my future when I begin to work. Besides I think this is how, as a part of a huge mechanism, I can help my country. I want to make my contribution rather than keeping aloof as a plain onlooker. I am proud of this title but it means responsibility as well.

A.Zh.: Whilst Asel is still studying as a journalist I am already as such. I have never been a volunteer and this is interesting for me to know how the events of the scale of the Universiade are organised and held and the best way to get to know this is by taking part in it in whatever capacity. I was lucky enough to have got a job placement to match my occupation, so I will work in the press centre. For me it is an opportunity for growth in the professional realm.

Almaty2017.com: What do you expect from the Universiade and do you like outfit?

A.B.: I have made acquaintances with a huge number of people. As a matter of fact, volunteers have got down to work quite long before the beginning of the Universiade. We have been hanging out and having a great time together and, making new friends who knows maybe for the rest of the life.

Separately, I want to tell about the outfit which we have been provided with. An excellent cut, fine materials were used for sewing it. Uniforms are comfortable, soft and easy to wear and do not encumber movements. Moreover, after the Universiade, we may keep them for a keepsake which makes us very delighted and this is a pleasant bonus for our efforts. The organisers have made sure that volunteers will not get frozen and look decent. Thanks them a lot for this!

A.Zh.: Where else can I get acquainted with so many people sharing the same ideas and being so positively energised? The Universiade is a prestige for our country and the event will prompt the development of tourism and, what is as much important, it will generate economic goods for our country. I hope that the successful accomplishment of the Universiade will enhance chances for Kazakhstan to hold even the Olympic games sometime in the future.

I believe I will remember for quite long participating in the Universiade and getting familiarized with this grandiose event, and the outfit we have been given will help us in this. I also like the design and fabric of which the outfit was sewn. Quite cheerful colours were used – vernal, festive. The city is already full of people sporting volunteer uniforms of all colours of the rainbow and we even stop each other, recognize ours, say hello to each other and made acquaintances. Rucksacks are spacious and they will come handy to us later on. In my case, it is a sure thing as I do travel the country a lot. And I appreciate them as much as gold.

Almaty2017.com: Do you do any sport? And what results do you expect from Kazakhstani sportsmen?

A.B.: I am fond of skating and I hope to land a job at Almaty Arena where the figure skating contests will be held. It is a very beautiful kind of sport. From our sportsmen do we all, and so do I, expect “gold”. In any case, I am confident that they will take all efforts to win it and I wish success to them!

A.Zh.: In my childhood I dreamt of becoming a figure skater and did not miss out on any USSR championship or the Olympics. Over time my zeal has fizzled out but I still love skating although I am not very good at it as I seldom do it. But as it is known it takes a knack, endurance and practicing. As any other fellow citizen I expect high performance from the Kazakhstani national team and hope that nothing will keep them from winning the Universiade's prizes. Cordially, I wish a good luck to all the sportsmen!

Only a few days are left before the 28th Worldwide Winter Universiade. Volunteers are ready to welcome guests and offer their help in any situations and do everything to the best of their abilities to have delegates, journalists and fans to feel at ease and have just good impressions of the Universiade. and Kazakhstan.
