The Ambassador of the Universiade 2017 Dariga Shakimova would take the risk of doing a ski jump

One of the ambassadors of the 28th Winter Universiade in Almaty is Dariga Shakimova, a bronze medal winner in boxing at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. She wished success to Kazakhstani participants and shared her wish to do a ski-jump:

“The Universiade is a grandiose event and I wish success to the sportsmen of Kazakhstan and expect them to perform well”, said Dariga Shakimova. “Let them remember every moment that they will have at the Universiade and show to the best advantage. Even more so, they have been doing professional sports all their life and the coming games will be an important point for them”.

As to Dariga Shakimova, out of the winter sports she is fond of ski jumping and she would take the risk of doing a ski-jump if there comes a chance:

“I do not always have time to follow winter sports due to my tight schedule. I will do my best to get round to the Universiade competitions. I have training camps planned for this period. I like watching ski jumping competitions. When I see at what heights a sportsman flies it takes my breath away and one needs to be brave enough to do this kind of sport. After certain training done I would give a shot at jumping myself. People do the training for years before they jump and if one does the wrong landing he/she will lose his/her life”.

In her childhood, Dariga skated and skied from to time to keep fit:

“In my childhood I skied with my dad. Then I frequented the Medeu where I skated. But it is long time since I have not put on skis and skates. Because I am always being at training camps or competitions and for no serious reason I do not want to risk in order to avoid traumas”.

Also the Olympic prize winner recollected her extreme deed in her life:

“My extreme deed in the life was my decision to go in for boxing. When you fight in the boxing ring you get an incredible dose of adrenaline. Even at workouts”.
